A modern documentary that will take you on a journey to explore the culture behind the salt and the evolution of its future.

Salt, lifeblood to small communities on an archipelago with over 7,000 islands is dying. Numerous factors affect the survival of this industry. But the industry can also effectuate impactful change for behind the tiny grain of salt lies not only a livelihood, but a culture.

Challenge

A passion project that has evolved into a mission to educate the world about Philippine Sea Salts is a huge undertaking. The Philippine Salt Industry is at a turning point, evolve or die. What was once a thriving industry is fast approaching its demise.

The challenge, how can we help this industry survive which has a direct correlation to helping the people behind it. For a country with 36,000 km of shoreline to produce less salt than the countries it imports from is the larger challenge.

ASIN is a documentary film that explores the Philippine Salt Industry, its artisans and its promising future into modern kitchens. There is the story of the nearly extinct Asin Tibuok of Bohol, one the rarest salts of the world with only one family remaining to preserve the craft. The elusive Sugpo Asin remains elusive. Then, there is the struggle from within; a government with all good intentions creating the current state of the industry. But all is not lost; a bright future looms from the shadows of its past.
